Superior Vena Cava Flow in Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Objective Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), whose definition, diagnosis and treatment has been the subject of debate in scientific community for a long time, is most common neurobehavioral childhood. There are many studies on pathophysiology attention deficit. However, there no study literature based direct or indirect measurement cerebral venous circulation ADHD, effect methylphenidate (MPH) circulation. Therefore, it was aimed to noninvasively measure superior vena cava (SVC) flow, which an indicator by transthoracic echocardiography patients with ADHD.Methods In study, 44 healthy children, 40 ADHD who were planned start osmotic-release oral system (OROS)- MPH included. SVC flows measured children before after drug therapy patients.Results flow found be higher compared children. A significant decrease OROS-MPH treatment. did not respond adequately treatment.Conclusion This first showed that associated increased had reducing this flow. We believe noninvasive, easily measurable, reproducible may new focus interest future comprehensive as biomarker support clinical evaluation follow-up patients.
